114 Sansome was originally constructed in 1908 and was built for Joseph T. Grant and named after his father, Adam Grant, the San Francisco businessman and founder of Murphy, Grant and Company, a dry goods wholesaler and manufacturer. In the 1920’s when demand for office space was growing in the financial district, the additional 8 stories were added and the tenancy in the Adam Grant building switched from manufacturing operations to financial services.

The building is recognized by the City Heritage Commission to be of Category I “Historical Significance” per Article 11 of the City Planning Code. Category I Buildings are defined as being at least 40 years old, are judged to be buildings of individual importance and are rated either excellent in architectural design or very good in both architectural design and relationship to the environment. Except for Landmark status, Category I is the highest rating a building in San Francisco can secure.

114 Sansome has undergone approximately $18 million in renovations since 2000. The property has been meticulously renovated and maintained. Interior office finishes are of exceptional quality while the exterior facade has been thoughtfully preserved.
